چکیده
The growth-promoting effect of the addition of 0-1 yo copper sulphate (supplying 250 p.p.m. Cu) to a growing-pig diet, reported by Barber, Braude, Mitchell & Cassidy (1955), has since been confirmed in many experiments both in Europe and America. In the present paper results of four further experiments are given dealing with: ( I ) the optimal level of copper sulphate to include in the diet; (2) comparison of copper sulphate and copper carbonate, in diets given at two different levels; (3) comparison of the effect of copper sulphate in diets containing dried skim milk as the protein supplement in place of white-fish meal; and (4) effect of system of feeding (‘semiad lib.’, wet, or ‘fully ad Zib.’, dry) on the response to copper sulphate.

Evaluation of the Effect of Onosma Bracteatum Wall (Boraginaceae) On Bronchial Hyperreactivity in Sensitized Guinea Pigs
Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disorder of the airways. The available treatment options have major limitations owing to low efficacy, associated adverse events and compliance issues. Therefore, the health burden of bronchial asthma is increasing globally at an alarming rate, providing a strong impetus for the development of new therapeutics. Onosma bracteatum ( O. bracteatum ) is know...
متن کاملUse of Growing Cells of Pseudomonas aeruginosa for Synthesis of the Natural Vanillin via Conversion of Isoeugenol
The great demand of people for consumption of natural additives resulted in producing natural vanillin. There are plant sources and chemical procedures for vanillin production but microbial bioconversions are being sought as a suitable alternative. In the present work, the ability to produce vanillin from isoeugenol was screened using growing cultures of various bacteria. Among the 56 strains o...

متن کاملTrichinella britovi as a risk factor for alternative pig production systems in Greece and Europe
Trichinellosis is an important zoonosis and the most common source of human infection is meat from pigs and wild boars. The European Union (EU) supports alternative pig production systems (organic and free-ranging) as sustainable farming systems. However, these systems that allow outdoor access for farm animals, may create new or reintroduce old risks to public health. During the last years, al...
متن کاملUse of Colchicine in Reduction or Prevention of Talc-induced Intra-abdominal Adhesion Bands
Background: Postoperative peritoneal adhesion bands are one of the most common complications caused by foreign material. Objective: To investigate the effect of colchicine on talc-induced peritoneal adhesion bands. Method: Adhesion bands were induced in 30 short hair England Guinea pigs by introduction of talc-saline solution (10 mL, 10%) into the peritoneal cavity. Afterwards, the pigs were ...
